Divergent by Veronica Roth book review

Divergent takes place in a dystopian society that consist of 5 different factions. Once they've turned 16, they have to compete with each other for a place in their desired faction. If the initiates fail to succeed in those trials, they become homeless and have no place in society.

The heroine ,Tris , unlike others is divergent, a "threat to society". When the time comes, she chooses to leave her family behind to pursue a spot in the Dauntless faction while hiding her secret. She then goes through with the trials, only to discover that Erudite, one of the factions, is plotting a gruesome plan.

The action, mystery, and romance made this book an incredible read. In my opinion, some of her decisions were very bold and dangerous. I have to admit that some of the choices she made were a bit frustrating, but they were pretty realistic given her circumstances. It was heartbreaking to see Tri's loved ones suffer caused by the greed of someone else. Nevertheless, it was interesting to see Tris move on forward and endure the hardships she was faced with.

  1. Great job with this summary/review. I especially liked how you put the definition of divergent. It really gives a sense to how the dystopian society lived. It was all explained very well and it helped me understand the character and the plot much better. She seems like she is misunderstood and perseverant. Amazing!
